It was a clear winter evening. The Southern Drawl Band was set to perform at the Mt. Storm Ski Area.

It was a concert show with fine dining and night skiing. The band was all set up, and the sound checks were in place. We were set to go on around 9:30pm (I believe), so before the show, the band’s road manager Mike Morris gave me a lift home to take a shower (I lived right up the road from Mt. Storm). Upon arriving home, we saw this gigantic floating aircraft with multicolored lights floating stationary and motionless in the sky. We stood in the middle of the road, staring up at the night sky at essentially the highest point from Dutchess County to the Catskill Mountains. We both stood under this massive, noiseless, hovering object.

Well, the show had to go on, so I cleaned up, got ready, and went back to Mt. Storm. The Southern Drawl Band put on a great show, and while we were performing, the giant aircraft flew over the ski area and headed north over the Taconic State Parkway, prompting people to pull over and get out of their cars to look. There’s plenty of info about this incident in books and on various shows, as well as all over the Internet. One of the controversies concerning this jaw-dropping experience involves a group of ultralight plane flyers who, a few months earlier, were flying around in formation with bright lights; however, unlike this U.F.O., you could hear their engines (they were eventually caught by the police). True story!
